Newly Qualified GP

We are looking for a newly qualified GP who is eligible to be employed under the Additional Roles reimbursement scheme. This stipulates that the GP must be within two years of completion of GP training and not have held a substantive post in a GP Practice. This role is for five sessions per week.

Saxon Spires Practice is a large dual site General Practice with purpose-built surgeries in the villages of Guilsborough and Brixworth in rural Northamptonshire. We provide general medical care and a wide range of additional services to 16,500 registered patients. We also have dispensaries at both sites and a pharmacy in Guilsborough. We have a committed team of health professionals including GPs, nurses, health care assistants, clinical pharmacists, physiotherapists, podiatrist and a social prescriber. Our dedicated management, reception and admin team are highly skilled in supporting all areas of work in the practice.

We are a training practice, supporting GP trainees, Foundation Doctors, Medical students as well as trainee nurses, nurse associates and student paramedics. We have a friendly and supportive working environment, collaborating closely as a multidisciplinary team, with weekly team meetings and educational sessions.

We offer a competitive package with six weeks of annual leave and two weeks study leave per year.

Our practice uses Emis Web clinical system and has excellent support from our dedicated admin team. GPs typically have twelve fifteen-minute consultations per session and would do a home visit if needed. Our patients have good access to appointments and are able to book ahead for routine matters or on the day for urgent problems. We have high levels of patient satisfaction with 93% of patients rating their overall experience of the practice as very good or fairly good in the 2024 GP Patient survey.

We have weekly team meetings and excellent opportunities for career development with onsite minor surgery, family planning, cryotherapy, joint injections and other procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Consultations: Manage both routine and urgent appointments via face-to-face and telephone consultations, ensuring safe, evidence-based, and individualised care.

Clinical Examinations & Care Plans: Perform comprehensive clinical assessments, addressing both physiological and psychological needs. Develop personalised care plans with timely referrals in line with practice, PCN, and local guidelines.

Independent Prescribing: Prescribe independently within your scope of practice, adhering to local or national prescribing guidelines, and promote health strategies that encourage patients to adopt healthier lifestyles.

Home Visits: Manage routine and emergency home visits as required.

Administrative Responsibilities: Handle routine administrative tasks such as responding to queries, managing repeat prescriptions, reviewing patient test results, and preparing referral letters or correspondence in a timely manner.

Clinical Management: Oversee patient care, initiate investigations, review results, and make appropriate referrals to secondary care or other providers, developing treatment plans that align with disease management protocols and NICE guidelines.

Collaboration: Work alongside other health and social care providers to ensure integrated care and maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records.

Team Support: Support both clinical and administrative staff in maintaining high standards and meeting practice targets.
